5GIC Systems Architect

The Insitute of Communication Systems home of the 5G Innovation centre is seeking to recruit one full-time 5G Systems Architect initially for two years to drive support and progress strategy in advanced Network research on 5G. The post holder will specifically work with and project manage a research team on European and EPSRC funded projects. The work will involve collaboration with 5GIC and funded project partners in the areas of Network Architecture, Network Orchestration/ Virtualisation, Context and Content Aware networking, and Intelligent/Autonomic networking.
For this opening, the successful applicant will be required to have extensive experience in industrial large project management and a deep knowledge of Mobile communications networking and the Internet with a specific focus on, software development, network virtualisation and intelligent self- organization. The applicant will be expected to have completed several hands-on software development projects in their career, in the field of telecoms and followed the software lifecycle model from concept to validation. As part of this experience, the candidate will be expected to discuss the different telecoms labs and testbeds they have worked on and demonstrate their experience in this respect.
The following qualifications are required for this post:
· Degree in Communications Engineering, Computing Science or related areas
· Experience in Communication Networking protocols and Internet engineering
· Experience in development of experimental testbeds and network planning software tools
· In addition to industry technical management, experience in at least one of the following areas is desirable:
Cellular Core Networks
Next Generation Networking/Protocols
Artificial Intelligence/ SON/Autonomic Networking
Context-Aware Networking/ Modelling & User Profile management
Big Data Analytics
