The University is launching an exciting new programme, adding to its existing Foundation Year programmes that provide the best possible preparation for degree level study. The Foundation Year programme for Social Sciences will be delivered across programmes in Law, Sociology and Politics, within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Our Foundation Year programmes offer a new and exciting route into studying for a degree, attracting ambitious and highly motivated students.

The students accepted to study on the Foundation Year programmes are taught and assessed at sub-degree level (FHEQ level 3 i.e. equivalent to A-levels), and comprise modules teaching academic subjects and study skills, which, upon successful completion, provide a direct pathway to undergraduate degree level study.

We are seeking an exceptional individual with drive and enthusiasm to lead the Social Sciences Foundation Year programmes.  As this is a new programme bringing together three separate areas within the Faculty, the successful candidate should be able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders to promote the programmes and be instrumental in fostering its success.

As Senior Teaching Fellow, the successful candidate will liaise with those teaching on the core degree programmes to ensure the appropriateness of content to prepare students on these Foundation Year programmes for entry to FEHQ Level 4 and provide academic support and advice to both staff and students within the Faculty. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the continued development of teaching methods, materials, technologies and learning environments which will enhance the students’ learning opportunities whilst creating an environment for understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.

The Senior Teaching Fellow on the Foundation Year programme will also deliver teaching on the programme in collaboration with other staff members as agreed with their line manager and relevant stakeholders, as well as liaise with staff in the Student Personal Learning and Study Hub.

The successful candidate should have a background in one or more of Law, Sociology or Politics, preferably including Law.  The successful candidate should possess a track record of excellent teaching in one or more of the areas of the Foundation Year programme (with a preference for Law), have a teaching qualification and have a degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject.

The University of Surrey aims to be an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
