The Veterinary Health Innovation Engine (vHive) at Surrey University is seeking to appoint a Data Management Officer. vHive is a collaborative venture between the University of Surrey’s 5G Innovation Centre, the Centre for the Digital Economy, the School of Veterinary Medicine and Zoetis.

The successful candidate will lead and manage all data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets. The position focuses on establishing and ensuring adherence to a Data Management Strategy which will serve as a data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices.

The Data Management Officer serves as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and protection issues, straddling two major projects; the first of which is the Surrey Animal Health Innovation Cluster, which is a new venture to create partnerships within the animal health industry regionally. The second is the development of an exciting new data intelligence toolset that will work with multiple stakeholders’ datasets to produce unique insights.

Tasks will range in complexity from basic analysis and problem solving to assisting in the development of more complex solutions where you will develop, manage and optimize data acquisition relationships and work with a diverse set of potential data partners including data aggregators, digital health data, niche data providers, public sources, and more.

You need to be up to date on the latest in data governance and be self-motivated to take on this exciting role. You will work closely with vHive’s Strategy and Delivery Manager to develop a standard in Data Management Strategy within the animal health industry.

This position is remote with the opportunity for office space when an appropriate situation arises. The School is set in the beautiful countryside of Surrey with the convenience of bustling Guildford on your doorstep and London just 35 minutes away by train, the University of Surrey is an outstanding international University with an enterprising spirit.

At Surrey, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all, in the pursuit of Surrey’s vision to be a leading global University. We work together to create a truly inclusive culture. We place great value on diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We are seeking to increase the diversity within our community and would particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups. Appointments will always be made on merit.

The post is a fixed term, full-time position for 1 year (with scope for extension)
