Research Fellow to work on Impact Acceleration Account project in collaboration with Siemens

Project details

We will take a computational fluid dynamics technique developed by astrophysicists (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics; SPH) and study whether it can find use in commercial engineering applications like modelling fluid flow around cars, or gas-fluid mixtures flowing along pipes. The techniques we will explore are already developed and presented in the astrophysics literature, but are not well known outside astrophysics. A range of new methods have sprung up over the past 5-10 years, but no systematic study has been carried out to assess which gives the best performance. We will provide this study, informing our commercial partner - Siemens - as to which SPH technique is best-suited to their code-base and problem set.

Project duration

We will employ a PDRA for between 3-8 months (depending on funding and start dates).
