Guildford School of Acting (GSA) is the conservatoire of the University of Surrey situated within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.  Established in 1935, GSA is one of the UK’s leading institutions for specialised, intensive vocational performance and technical theatre training, and enjoys national and international renown. As a founding member of the Federation of Drama Schools (FDS) whose programmes are accredited by the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre (CDMT), the school is an advocate for maintaining training excellence, pioneering innovation and driving change as an accessible, inclusive learning and training environment. The School has a diverse and vibrant community of performers, performance makers, creative practitioners and technicians graduating from its industry focussed vocational training programmes each year.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Teaching Fellow in Acting to join the Acting Department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the leadership, development and delivery of the school’s vocational programmes and actor training ethos. We are particularly keen to continue the development of our training programmes to include perspectives and practices that represent the diverse global community of the contemporary industry and would expect the successful candidate for this post to be able to contribute to this ongoing progress.

The role will be primarily focussed upon delivering actor training via classes and projects in addition to directing productions across GSA’s Acting, Actor Musician and Musical Theatre programmes. The post holder will be potentially responsible for assuming leadership of one of the school’s acting programmes, with specific duties related to module leadership, recruitment of students at auditions and providing guidance, support and pastoral care as a personal and year tutor to students.

At the University of Surrey and GSA, we are committed to working together to create an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all, pursuing our vision to be a leading global institution. We place great value on diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We are seeking to increase the diversity within our community and would particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, people with disabilities and those identifying as female, non-binary or trans. Appointments will always be made on merit.

As a new colleague you will join a thriving creative community, working with inspiring students and supportive colleagues. The successful applicant will be an innovative, collaborative and creative practitioner who will contribute to the ongoing development of vocational learning, practice and scholarship at GSA possessing the experience to deliver conservatoire level vocational training.

Interview will be week commencing 26th July 2021
