Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Fellow post in microbial metagenomic and host immune response data analysis. A four-year, longitudinal study of the development of gut microbiota in Thoroughbred racehorses is underway that has already established a unique dataset of samples and metadata. This post is to provide dedicated bioinformatics and data analysis expertise in order to integrate and interrogate bacterial community profile data, immunological and health outcomes data. The post holder will be primarily responsible for data analysis, data presentation and writing high quality scientific papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Academic support for data analytics will be provided by the University’s Bioinfomatics Core Facility.

The post is based in the Department of Pathology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Surrey, within the new School of Veterinary Medicine in Guildford, Surrey. You will be part of a vibrant, inter-disciplinary research environment with a strong international reputation. The Department has a critical mass of expertise and funded research projects investigating many aspects of animal intestinal microbiota. This is a fixed term post for a duration of 30 months.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track-record of working with microbial metagenomic data and an innovative, adaptable approach to data analysis. Competency and creativity in multi-variable data analysis will be very useful in the role, as will the ability to design, benchmark, and apply bioinformatics and statistical tools for metagenomics data. A scientist with well-developed scientific writing skills is sought in order to deliver the required publications from this project in a timely fashion.

In addition to your salary you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement, relocation assistance where appropriate, attractive research environments, the latest teaching facilities, and access to a variety of staff development opportunities.
