The Project and the Role

You will work on a project exploring the development of spatial and mathematical thinking in individuals with Down Syndrome. The project aims to establish the cognitive profiles and developmental trajectories of spatial thinking in Down Syndrome for the first time. We will also investigate spatial-mathematical associations in this population (Study 1). This project will also optimise on the current digital revolution to investigate the prevalence of technology-use and gaming in the Down Syndrome community (Study 2). To this end, we will identify opportunities and limitations for designing technology-based training for individuals with Down Syndrome.

You will be part of a strong team of experts in spatial cognition, mathematical cognition and neurodevelopmental disorders. You will be involved in each stage of both studies. This will include the preparation (and design) of tasks and questionnaires, participant recruitment and data collection. You will be responsible for data coding and analyses of the data. You will also make a substantial contribution to report writing, presentations, publications (at least one first author paper is envisaged) and dissemination to non-academic audiences.

You will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in Psychology or a related subject (or will be close to finishing your PhD), have experience in conducting cognitive behavioural studies and standard data coding, have experience of statistical analysis using statistical packages such as R or SPSS, and have experience writing for publication.

This is a fixed-term project looking to start March 2020 and end February 2021.
