Trusted Research Assurance Manager

We are seeking a highly proactive Trusted Research Assurance Manager to join our Assurance team within the Research, Innovation & Impact (RII) Directorate. 

About the role

The Trusted Research Assurance Manager role is part of the Assurance Team covering a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the University of Surrey's adherence to governance policies and regulatory standards.

This role maintains a vigilant oversight of national policy initiatives, and best practices in trusted research and due diligence. It will lead the development and updating of external reporting requirements, informing the University's Trusted Research Agenda to align with regulatory frameworks and ensuring compliance with key legislation such as the National Security and Investment Act and Export Control legislation.

Collaborating with stakeholders, this role will lead on the delivery of expert advice, guidance, training and support to researchers, management and professional services staff. The role includes managing risk assessments for new collaborations and partnerships, through fostering strong relationships with academic schools and University Professional services, to promote responsible research practices. 

About you 

You need to be be qualified to a degree, HND, or NVQ 4 level, with substantial practical experience in regulated environments, including managing policies, risk, and developing compliance documentation. Ideally, you will have knowledge of applying export control regulation.

It is essential that you are proficiency with IT systems, with excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle sensitive data discreetly. You must possess strong networking and influencing abilities, with experience in consulting with regulatory bodies on governance, compliance, and risk mitigation. You will need to occasionally travel for external conferences and events to fulfil the responsibilities of this role effectively.
