Facilities Assistant

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised Facilities Assistant to support the smooth day to day day operation of our Faculty buildings and facilities. Working as part of the Faculty Operations team within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, you will help create a safe, functional, and welcoming environment that supports teaching, research, clinical activity, and professional services.

This is a varied and hands on role. You will coordinate facilities enquiries, maintenance requests, repairs, and building access arrangements, while carrying out regular building inspections and supporting staff and room moves. Working closely with Estates & Facilities, IT Services, contractors, and other colleagues, you will help ensure operational issues are resolved quickly and effectively.

You will also support procurement and administrative activities, operational projects, and space improvements across the Faculty. If you are organised, adaptable, enjoy solving problems, and take pride in delivering excellent customer service, this is an opportunity to make a real impact in a busy and dynamic environment.

About you

You will be an organised, dependable, and detail focused administrator with experience of working in a busy office environment. You will be confident managing competing priorities, working accurately to deadlines, and communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. A collaborative approach and a professional, service focused attitude are essential, along with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Strong IT skills and confidence in standard administrative systems are required. Experience of working within facilities support would be an advantage but is not essential, as would familiarity with higher education or a complex organisational environment.

How to apply

Please complete the application form and attach an up to date CV and cover letter explaining what has drawn you to this role.  Applications without a CV will not be considered.

Informal enquiries are welcome and can be directed to Adam Trish at a.trish@surrey.ac.uk.

Please note the University of Surrey reserves the right to close this vacancy early or extend based on Volume and Calibre of applications.
