Junior AV Technician

As part of our continued investment in high-quality teaching, learning and digital services, the University of Surrey is seeking a Junior AV Technician.

This user-facing role supports audio-visual, video conferencing, lecture capture and teaching technology services across teaching spaces, meeting rooms and event spaces. Working within IT Services, you will help staff, students and visitors use technology confidently and effectively, responding to support requests, troubleshooting issues and supporting hybrid teaching and events.

Role & Responsibilities

The Junior AV Technician works collaboratively with AV & IT colleagues, suppliers and University stakeholders to deliver reliable, customer-focused AV and teaching technology support.

The post holder will support day-to-day service delivery by preparing, operating and demonstrating AV equipment, diagnosing routine and less-routine issues, maintaining accurate records and escalating complex or unresolved problems where needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide a broad range of AV, video conferencing, lecture capture and teaching technology support across teaching spaces, meeting rooms and event spaces, ensuring services are delivered to agreed quality standards.
  • Receive, prioritise and respond to support requests through telephone, email, face-to-face contact and the IT service management tool, arranging immediate work priorities in response to operational needs.
  • Diagnose and resolve routine and less-routine AV hardware, software, connectivity and configuration issues, using established procedures and escalating complex or unresolved issues to senior colleagues as appropriate.
  • Prepare, operate and demonstrate AV and teaching technology equipment for staff, students and visitors, providing practical guidance on correct use and helping users access available services effectively.
  • Support hybrid teaching, video-conference events, portable AV equipment bookings, routine equipment checks, asset records, small-scale installations and upgrades in line with agreed requirements.
