Consultancy Manager

Fixed term – 12 months (with potential for extension)

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world - which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

We are seeking a highly proactive and detail-orientated Consultancy Manager to join our Innovation & Impact team, part of the Research, Innovation and Impact (RII) division.

About the role

As Consultancy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the University’s consultancy activities. While not directly delivering consultancy projects, you will manage the administration of the University’s consultancy portfolio, ensuring projects are successfully delivered in line with our refreshed Consultancy Procedure

You will be the central point of contact, for all consultancy-related matters, providing a high-quality service from project scoping, costing, and setup through to completion – for academic colleagues, external partners, and professional services teams.

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines strong financial acumen with excellent interpersonal skills. You will have:

  • Proven experience in costing projects, price negotiation, and contractual support
  • A high level of attention to detail and strong financial competencies
  • The ability to communicate confidently with researchers, businesses, and internal stakeholders
  • Experience in scoping projects and facilitating discussions with external partners to understand their needs
  • A proactive approach to relationship management and identifying opportunities for further collaboration

What we can offer

In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part time roles), a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

How to apply

To apply, please complete the online application form, including responses to your questions detailing how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification. You may also upload your CV and a Cover Letter. Please note: applications without completed online questions will not be considered.

Interview Date: Wednesday 12th November, in-person at the University of Surrey

Assessment: Includes a finance test to assess financial acumen.
