The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
We are seeking a candidate who is excited to take on a leadership role in the University of Surrey's Library and Learning Services. We are looking for someone who is passionate about people, adept at building relationships, and takes pride in providing an exceptional experience for our students. We are open to considerations of flexible working, and the team supports hybrid working, with the ability to work in the office and from home, in line with business needs.
The role forms part of the Library and Learning Services Senior Leadership Team, along with two other Associate Directors and the Director of Library and Learning Services, to whom this post reports. Whilst we expect the three Associate Directors to work closely together, this role will have a particular focus on setting strategic direction for education within the library context, ensuring that the learning development team provides the highest levels of support for students, working collaboratively with various stakeholders in the Surrey community.
About you
You will have strong communication skills, significant experience of managing library / information services in a Higher Education context, and a clear understanding of the educational needs of Higher Education students. You may have some experience managing a learning development team, but this is not essential. More importantly, we are looking for someone who is great at building relationships and working towards achieving our wider university strategy. You must also be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion.
What we can offer
In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part time roles), a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
How to apply
To apply for this role please upload a CV and cover letter detailing how you demonstrate the knowledge, experience and competence required for this role (as outlined in the “Person Specification” section of the Job Description), and also outlining why you are interested in this role.
Interviews for this position will be held on campus on Thursday 23rd October.
For an informal discussion, please contact Paul Johnson, Director of Library and Learning Services, paul.johnson@surrey.ac.uk
