The role
The Employability and Careers Service is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Employability & Opportunities Team.
The post represents an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop a career within Higher Education at a leading UK University. The post also arises at a time of increased awareness of the importance of the employability agenda within Higher Education, and Professional Training Placements continue to sit at the heart of the university's employability strategy. You will gain an invaluable insight into the role of the Employability and Careers Service, and the Professional Training scheme, in enriching the student journey.
Professional Training is an integral part of life at the University of Surrey and is a fantastic opportunity for all Surrey students. Our pioneering Professional Training placement programme has a large network of partner organisations in the UK and overseas. These organisations provide opportunities for students to put their skills into practice and to experience a real professional environment.
Working closely with your line manager and in collaboration with administrative and academic colleagues, you will support students and placement providers through all aspects of the placement process, and in doing so play your part in seeking to maximise the number of students benefitting from a Professional Training experience.
Day to day you will be handling student and staff enquiries, maintaining accurate student information, and supporting academic staff in the delivery of Professional Training. Primary responsibility will be given for specific subject areas, but the Professional Training team routinely coordinates work across departmental/school boundaries to foster efficiency and sharing of best practice.
About you
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong customer focus and attention to detail, especially with regards to maintenance of spreadsheets and databases. Strong interpersonal skills are required for the variety of stakeholders you will deal with on a daily basis including academic staff, administrative staff, students and employers.
