Senior Animal Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Animal Technician to oversee the day-to-day operations of our state-of-the-art Biological Research Facility (BRF) and actively contribute to the promotion of animal welfare and the Culture of Care within our facility.

The role

As a Senior Animal Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being and care of the animals under our supervision. Adhering to Home Office guidelines and the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986. Your responsibilities will include:

Animal Care: Providing excellent care, handling, and husbandry for a variety of laboratory animals, including but not limited to rodents, rabbits Ensuring their health, cleanliness, and welfare is maintained at all times.

Health Monitoring: Conducting regular health assessments, observing animals for any signs of distress or illness.

Experimental Support: Collaborating with researchers to assist in animal-related experimental procedures, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and applicable regulations.

Record Keeping: Accurately documenting all aspects of animal care, procedures, and observations in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.

Facility Maintenance: Maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of animal housing areas, workspaces, and equipment to uphold high standards of hygiene and safety.

Prior technical experience and line management is essential for this role.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in animal welfare and research and a practical approach to work. You’ll be a, flexible, methodical, organised, technically minded and experienced with working in a laboratory environment. Weekend, Bank Holidays and university closure days to be worked as part of a rota basis.

You will work well in a team and be able to work autonomously and as part of a wider team. You’ll offer guidance and professional judgement to the academic and technical communities.
