This is an exciting opportunity for a Reader/Senior Lecturer in Secure Systems at the University of Surrey which is an international university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit. This post will aim to complement the appointment of a new Professor in Secure Systems.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in research in security and provide leadership within the research team.  Suitable areas of expertise that complement current strengths of the group include (but are not limited to): anti-malware security, adversarial machine learning, risk management and threat modelling, trusted systems, verification, and distributed systems.

Research in the Department of Computer Science is focussed on two main areas – Secure Systems, and Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering. Surrey has GCHQ recognition as one of the UK Academic Centres of Excellence in Cyber Security Research. The research on evolutionary optimization and computational intelligence is internationally recognised.

The Department has a large secure systems research group, led by Professor Steve Schneider, with expertise in security by design, authentication, verification, distributed ledger technologies, trusted systems and cloud security.
The post offers the unique opportunity to drive the research agenda of interfacing machine learning and security within the Department across the University, grow cyber security research involving Surrey’s 5G Innovation Centre, Surrey Space Centre, and interdisciplinary research with the Centre for Digital Economy and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Candidates to the post should have a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience. An ability to secure research funding and produce high quality outputs and manage research projects and supervise research students is also required.  It is expected that the post-holder will also contribute to high quality teaching in cyber security and fundamental topics in computer science at undergraduate and post-graduate level.

This is full-time and permanent position and would wish to appoint as soon as possible but we would aim to have the successful candidate in place by September 2018.

The University and the Department specifically are committed to building a culturally diverse organisation and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates. The Department of Computer Science was recently awarded a Bronze Athena SWAN award, in recognition of our commitment to equality and diversity.

Presentations and interviews are scheduled to take place on 9th and 10th May, 2018. During the interview process there will be an opportunity to meet members of the Department and faculty during an informal evening dinner and also to meet with other colleagues within the Department on an informal basis.
