Surrey Business School (SBS) is an internationally recognised centre for management research and teaching. We are accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and by AMBA (the Association of MBAs). With a strong Senior Management Team led by its newly appointed Dean, Professor Ansgar Richter, we are ambitious in building a world-class interdisciplinary business school where innovative thinking is accelerated into action. Our particular strengths are in digital innovation and technological transformation, leadership and organizational psychology, sustainability and corporate governance. Based in Guildford just outside of London, the University of Surrey is an outstanding international University with an enterprising spirit.

Surrey Business School is a mid-sized business school with approximately 100 academic staff members from around the globe, and a highly cohesive and collegial atmosphere. We are growing strongly, both in terms of our size, and in terms of the quality and impact of our work. Specifically, we put a heavy emphasis on research excellence. Our faculty regularly publish their research in top journals such as Journal of Finance, Review of Finance, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and in other leading journals in their fields of expertise. Our colleagues have joined us from prestigious universities and business schools worldwide.

We run a full range of programmes including undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programmes, as well as a PhD programme. Our programmes are renowned for their quality in terms of intellectual rigor, student experience, and employability. As a School, we are becoming increasingly active in executive education (both open-enrolment and tailor-made programmes). Through our Business Insights Lab, we work closely with companies and other partner organisations. In particular, we have strong links with many technology-oriented start-ups and established firms in London, Surrey, and the South-East of England in general. For further information about Surrey Business School, please visit our website (http://www.surrey.ac.uk/business-school).

The Department of Finance and Accounting has core research strength in corporate finance and corporate governance. Our research increasingly considers the link between corporate governance and finance, and we are looking to expand this area. The Department is a healthy mix of research active faculty and practitioner teaching fellows, the latter bringing a wealth of business experience. The Department has grown strongly in recent years, and will continue to do so in future. We thus seek to appoint a Chair in Corporate Governance who is also willing to provide leadership in the Department and support its future development.

We are looking for a strongly research-active academic with an excellent track record of publications in top international journals (ABS 4* or 4). You would help to lead the development of the research agenda of the Department: Supervising PhD students, mentoring early career researchers, and attracting and managing externally funded research programmes. You would also be contributing to teaching. However, we will ensure that your teaching load is such as to provide you with sufficient time for research leadership. There will be ample opportunities for you to become active in business engagement and executive education.

The Chair in Corporate Governance will be a full-time position, offered on a permanent basis. Conditions and compensation will be at internationally competitive standards and be commensurate with the appointee’s experience and expertise.

For an informal discussion please contact Head of the Finance and Accounting Department, Professor Paul Guest (p.guest@surrey.ac.uk) or the Dean of Surrey Business School, Professor Ansgar Richter (a.richter@surrey.ac.uk).

Candidate presentations and interviews are planned to take place in the week starting June 26th 2017.
