Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Chrono-Nutrition

Duration: 36 months
Start date: 1st October 2019

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the group of Dr Jonathan Johnston to investigate the role of meal timing and circadian rhythms in human physiology. The project will build upon exciting unpublished data to determine how mealtime regulates the metabolome and assorted physiological/metabolic/endocrine markers. The post holder will help to run a state-of-the-art intensive human laboratory protocol, conduct laboratory analysis of experimental samples and utilise complex statistical models to interpret the resulting data. This work will be supported by an expert team of clinical colleagues and scientists from our core research facilities. The work will extend high profile research recently published by the Investigator team leading the project (e.g. Wehrens et al 2017 Current Biology 27: 1768-1775; Skene et al 2018 PNAS 115: 7825-7830).

We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated scientist with a PhD in physiology, biochemistry or related field. Expertise in chronobiology and metabolic physiology is essential. Previous experience with metabolomics is desirable. Good communication skills are essential, as participation in national and international collaborations is expected. Applicants should have published (or be about to publish) in good quality peer-reviewed journals.

We offer work with an internationally renowned team of scientists working with unique, world-class facilities. Our laboratory is located at the beautiful campus of the University of Surrey, a leading UK University close to London. The University of Surrey is internationally recognized for its research in Chronobiology and Sleep, and the candidate could engage in internal and external collaborations. We also provide a generous benefits package including final salary pension scheme, relocation provision, and access to world-class leisure facilities.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Jonathan Johnston(j.johnston@surrey.ac.uk).

To apply please complete the application process, ensuring you include a cover letter, CV and the names of at least two referees. Deadline for application is 6th September 2019. Interviews will be held in week commencing 16th September.
