Why Surrey?

The University of Surrey is located on a beautiful, leafy campus in Guildford, just 30 miles from London. We are ambitious, and through the talents and endeavour of every employee, Surrey has earned its place as one of the top higher education institutions in the UK and has a bold vision to be a truly global University.

The Role

We are currently seeking an Events Coordinator to join our vibrant Events Team on a part time basis (job share 0.5 FTE). This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to work in the Higher Education sector alongside other talented professionals.

This role reports to the Events Officer who primarily oversees the events programme for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, but also works on high-level centralised events outside of the Faculty remit. The Events Coordinator will work closely with the Events Officer to successfully organise, implement, promote and evaluate a programme of Faculty events. In addition, they will support University-wide events such as Open Days, Applicant Days, Graduations and other medium to large scale events that are aligned with key strategic objectives.

Suggested working hours:

Monday – 9am-5pm
Tuesday – 9am-5pm
Wednesday – 10am-2pm

What you’ll need to succeed

You will be confident working alongside other event professionals, as well as colleagues from across the University. You will work particularly closely with Faculty colleagues to understand their event needs, therefore the ideal candidate will be able to navigate themselves between a wide range of stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in successful event management from concept to completion.
  • Operational knowledge of approaches central to running events such as organising staging, catering, AV equipment, invitations, guest lists and risk assessments.
  • The ability to work on a range of projects concurrently, showcasing flexibility where necessary in order to manage changing circumstances.
  • Good examples of communication, adaptability, customer support, budget management, problem solving and teamwork skills.

In addition to a competitive salary, you will receive 25 days annual leave (will be pro-rated for part time), 6 University closure days and 1 assigned discretionary day each year on top of the standard public holiday dates. The University also offers a great benefits package including pension and discounted membership to the world-renowned Surrey Sports Park.
