We are recruiting for a Mechanical Workshop Apprentice to join our organisation. You will be working within the Engineering Workshop of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey. You will carry out a range of engineering operations which could include ensuring machines and equipment used are maintained and serviceable, dealing with breakdowns, restoring components and systems to serviceable condition by repair and replacement and operating a variety of machines.

The role is working Monday to Friday 37 hours per week. You will be studying towards a two-year programme aligned with the Institute for Apprenticeships Engineering manufacturing technician Level 4 standard at East Surrey College, during which you will complete an HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering. The successful candidate will have qualifications that meet the entry requirements for a level 4 qualification in Mechanical Engineering. This role offers a starting salary of £21,630, therefore offers the opportunity to earn whilst you learn.

The University of Surrey signed the Technician Commitment led by the Science Council, to ensure greater visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians across all disciplines. This position will provide opportunities to work alongside an experienced technical team, attend research seminars and build professional contacts across the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

The HNC will start in September 2023, but we are happy for the successful candidate to start before this date if they meet the entry requirements.
