Working in our Faculty Research and Innovation Office, this is an exciting opportunity to work closely with our academic community and industry contacts developing impact through the commercialisation of our research. 

About the role

As Technology Transfer (Innovation) Manager, you will take responsibility for;

  • The commercialisation of university intellectual property, producing income from licensing, equity stakes in spin-out companies, and associated research contracts. 
  • Identifying a pipeline of research with commercial potential and would be expected to be familiar with the impact agenda and able to create opportunities for maximising impact from your portfolio.
  • Interacting with academic and professional services colleagues across the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and the wider university in supporting impact from research through commercialisation, industry engagement, knowledge exchange, influencing policy.  
  • Staying abreast of external and internal funding opportunities relating to innovation and impact, you’ll take a lead role in promoting and supporting these through our academic community.

About you

We are looking for someone with;

  • A degree in a physical science or engineering discipline or have substantial vocational and relevant management experience, or success in similar or related role, supported by evidence of significant appropriate knowledge. 
  • Strong business acumen with an associated network of contacts, the ability to bridge successfully between academia and business and to find markets for technologies. 
  • A sound knowledge of patenting, licence deal structures and the spin-out process ideally in the UK Higher Education arena.  
  • A collegiate approach, with demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment.
