The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people dedicated to life-changing education and research.

Located in Guildford, Surrey, we pride ourselves on the experiences our students have and the high-quality education they receive at our beautiful Stag Hill Campus.

We are recruiting an AV technician to join our AV Service Team. Working alongside six members of the Learning Spaces Technology Team, this user-facing role is responsible for providing a point of service supporting more than 200 AV installations across multiple campuses.

What you will be doing:

  • Providing day-to-day support for Audio Visual systems, video conferencing, lecture capture and all other teaching room technologies.
  • Administration of AV and video-conference bookings, including logging and fulfilling requests.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve AV incidents to return to regular service.
  • Manage support requests ensuring they are resolved within agreed timescales, and users are informed of progress.
  • Monitor stock levels of AV consumables and order replacement stock as required.
  • Undertake preventative maintenance checks of equipment to provide a robust and reliable service for end-users. This will include lamp and filter changes as required and identifying more significant underlying issues with AV systems.
  • Managing equipment loan processes to meet ad hoc equipment requirements.
  • Providing end-user training and support for our new hybrid teaching solutions and services internally.
  • Assisting lecturers with special requirements that cannot be met using the standard room offerings.
  • Procurement, installation, and support to all university community members, both staff and students.
  • Contributing to the service's continuous development and involvement in AV projects, such as standard room installations and ongoing maintenance of supported systems after receiving suitable training.
  • Configuring and testing new hardware before installation and undertaking independent software testing before its release in a live environment.
  • AV support for events across our two sites requires a technician to attend.

What you will have:

  • Some knowledge and enthusiasm in wanting to diagnose and resolve hardware faults logically.
  • An interest in the Audio-Visual industry, so interest can be turned into technical skills to support the AV throughout the Surrey campus.
  • A requirement to learn our incident reporting tools such as Heat and be prepared to learn about incident management and ITIL processes. Again, training would be provided, which the candidate would be expected to attend.
  • Keen interest in AV technologies and remote access systems such as Crestron X panels and other AV technologies we use.
  • A good logical thought process to pick up new skills so you can assist in the installation, configuration, management and support of a range of AV hardware.
  • Good working knowledge of Windows environments associated with infrastructures and networking.
  • Excellent communication skills to project a confident and welcoming manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and a willingness to learn about the AV and IT environment at the University of Surrey.
  • Senior AV Technicians will give mentoring and coaching, so the right attitude through this learning path is key to progressing in this role.

If you're looking to join a highly skilled and incredibly supportive team where you will be highly valued, we look forward to hearing from you!
