This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Surrey’s Researcher Development Team working within the University’s growing Doctoral College. Supporting the University’s ambitious new research strategy, this team supports researchers across all stages and disciplines, enabling them to excel in their research and to succeed in their future career ambitions (either within or outside of academia) through the provision of a wide range of teaching/training sessions as well as events, mentoring, employability enhancing opportunities, and pastoral support (

We are advertising for a 0.5 Careers Adviser to work with our postgraduate and early career researchers, to contribute to and be involved in expanding our current career development and employability provision, with the aspiration that a doctorate at the University of Surrey is an ‘Employability Doctorate’ opening doors for our graduates across sectors. 

The role provides the opportunity to explore and implement innovative and flexible approaches to careers delivery, provide specialist career advice and coaching and deliver workshops to enable our postgraduate and early careers researchers to make effective career choices and successful transitions.

 Working with colleagues within the Doctoral College, the wider University and externally strong candidates will need to show an ability to build positive working relationships, demonstrate an enthusiasm in embracing new ways of working, be proactive and have a passion for supporting the career development of researchers.   

The post holder will also require significant experience of careers counselling and guidance and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by postgraduate and early career researchers.
