The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) home of the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join the team and work on the new Key Enabling Technologies for Future Network Architecture and Future Network Protocols “Network 2030” project until 31st March 2022.

This is the world’s first research centre dedicated to the advanced technologies that will underpin the 5G network of the future. The Centre is working in partnership with some of the world’s leading network operators, infrastructure and tools providers, media and communications organisations, such as, BBC, BT, Cobham, EE, Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe, Huawei, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, Telefonica, Teoco and Vodafone, as well as the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom. The Centre is carrying out world-leading research into higher-capacity lower-energy mobile-communication networks.

ICS also involve exciting research activities on beyond 5G technologies as well as different application domains that require specific network support. This specific project aims to address some fundamental limitations of the legacy network architectures and protocols and develop revolutionary networking technologies for supporting future networked services including but not limited to virtual/augmented realities and holographic based content applications.

Candidates should have demonstrable experiences in TCP/IP networking as well as system-level prototyping with Java/C++/Python programming.  Research experiences with analytical modelling and simulations are also desirable.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£31,302) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£32,236).
