The University of Surrey (UoS) is seeking a full-time Director to lead the English language faculty within the Centre for English Academic Studies (CEAS) at the Surrey International Institute (SII) at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) in the delivery of an English for Special Academic Purposes (ESAP) programme in Dalian, China.
SII is a Joint Sino-Foreign Cooperative School owned by DUFE and the UoS. It was established in 2007, as approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education. SII currently has over 1400 students enrolled in business and tourism management programmes and will expand this year to include accounting and finance. The ESAP programme is organised for delivery in the first year and is critical to help prepare students to study at university level in an English-speaking learning environment. Ongoing student support will be required to be provided by CEAS staff via the Student Academic Support Centre.
The Director position is the senior academic post for the ESAP programme and will report to the Dean (Operations) at SII, with a secondary reporting line to the Associate Dean, DUFE. The post holder will be responsible for the leadership of the faculty staff, maintaining the integrity of the curriculum and achievement of relevant Institute targets.
It is expected that the incumbent will hold a doctoral qualification in TESOL / ELT / TEFL / Applied Linguistics and other relevant qualifications at the undergraduate and master levels. All applicants should have proven leadership experiences at recognised universities and be familiar with the UK approach to quality assurance. Also, the incumbent must be able to effectively work with administrators on the planning and delivery aspects of the programme, especially the Registry Office and Human Resources. Experience of working with TNE programmes in an international environment, preferably China, would be advantageous. Finally, experience in ESAP curriculum design would be helpful.
