Are you a recently qualified MSc/MChem graduate interested in developing a bio-based polymer?  Are you interested in product formulation and characterisation of plastics?

The University of Surrey and Vistafolia are offering (subject to contract) an exciting opportunity to lead and manage a 25-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop a bio-based polymer with measurable ultraviolet stability and fire-retardant qualities to create artificial foliage.

Vistafolia are a fast-growing world-wide artificial greenery brand, producing hyper-realistic artificial plants.

This KTP will enable you to kickstart your career in industry and apply your knowledge and technical expertise gained through academic study in a real-world context, to bring a new innovative product to market. The successful candidate will develop their understanding of the characteristics of existing products and use this knowledge as a benchmark for developing new innovative products for Vistafolia.

The successful candidate should possess the following: -

Technical criteria - Essential:

  • A recent MSc/MChem (or higher) degree in Chemistry or a related discipline, with a Materials Science background.
  • Knowledge of mechanical characterisation and synthesis of biopolymers.
  • Experience in laboratory set-up, and engineering design approaches.

Technical criteria - Desirable:

  • Experience of materials characterisation techniques (e.g. FTIR, SEM, XPS) would be beneficial.
  • Previous industrial work experience including placement.
  • Experience of technical documentation and reporting/presentation.

Non-technical criteria:

  • Proficiency in the English language (i.e. excellent speaking, listening, reading, writing skills).
  • Self-starter who will perform beyond the bounds of the immediate task-set, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Enthusiasm for the scientific method, embracing new ideas and concepts whilst bridging the gap between academia and industry, preserving the interests of both.

Based at Vistafolia)in Frimley, Surrey, you will have the confidence to manage and take full ownership of this KTP project - a collaboration between Vistafolia and the University of Surrey. To succeed in this role, you will require a clear understanding of both the KTP Programme and the company partner.Vistafolia designs, manufactures, and supplies unique and versatile ultra-realistic lush artificial green wall systems. The company’s success depends on innovation leadership, which means constantly improving product design and durability.

This KTP is offered on a 25-month fixed-term contract and will provide you with the opportunity to become a technical authority in this subject area, which may substantially enhance your employability post KTP. You will benefit from business-based training and career development, including a diverse range of non-technical skills, such as project management and leadership. Thus, you will be demonstrably pragmatic, efficient, creative, highly-proactive and motivated to embed new knowledge into the company.
