Micro-Vibration Isolation System Development

The Surrey Space Centre (SSC) at the University of Surrey is a world leading Centre of Excellence in Space Engineering, with a multidisciplinary competence that gives us a full end-to-end capability, unique in UK academia, to develop and execute space missions, from concept study to spacecraft design and Manufacturing Assembly Integration & Testing, to mission operations, which we run from our own ground station, and exploitation of space data.

SSC are looking for a research assistant to work on semi-active control of micro-vibrations, carrying out a blend of theoretical and experimental research activities to develop a breadboard model for a bespoke isolation system. The ESA-funded project is led by SSC and is carried out together with 2 established industrial partners.

The candidate is expected to have good knowledge of magnetic devices, structural analysis and testing procedures, as well as proficiency in engineering software like NASTRAN, COMSOL, Matlab/Simulink and Solidworks.

This is a fixed term contract for up to 12 months.

We can offer a generous remuneration package, which includes relocation assistance where appropriate, an attractive research environment, the latest teaching facilities, and access to a variety of staff development opportunities.
