The Chemistry department is looking to recruit a research fellow in electrochemical drug sensing validation. Specifically, the postdoc will investigate how patient sample analysis compares with results obtained from artificial solutions. The successful candidate will optimise ion-sensing membrane technology to achieve reproducible results from patient samples.

Personal Glucose Meters allow regular self-testing of blood glucose levels and has both improved diabetes treatment and been shown to slow the progression of the disease. Our aim is to adapt glucose test strips to allow them to measure blood drug levels for patients with severe depression and bipolar disorder. Being able to measure drug levels more often will allow better management of the disease since the narrow safe drug range makes it difficult to manage. Self-testing will permit patients to achieve control of their medication and reduce potential side effects of accidental changes in drug levels.

The postdoc will be expected to attend progress meetings, where they will present project results through review presentations to internal project partners. They are also expected to work with other members of the collaborative team within the Department of Chemistry.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary at Level 3.6 to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1

The ideal candidate will have completed a PhD in analytical/materials chemistry (or close to completion) and should also have experience in electrochemical analysis related to medical applications.
