Research Fellow A - EPSRC Next Stage Centre for the Decentralised Digital Economy

We seek a post-doctoral research associate (PDRA) for the EPSRC Next Stage Digital Economy Centre in the Decentralised Digital Economy (DECaDE), to work with Prof Glenn Parry based in the Business School. We are currently defining the next phase of the work, but would like an individual with expertise in business models and value and knowledge of one or more of: power, supply chain, systems engineering, service design, cost modelling, process management. The position is part of a major cross-disciplinary Centre – www.decade.ac.uk

GOALS OF THE POSITION

Within the DECaDE project, this 24-month PDRA position will work on the projects co-created with business. Current themes include (see https://decade.ac.uk/?page_id=701):

  • Cocreating value
  • Data and Identity
  • Decentralised work

We are in the process of developing ideas for the next stage, which include:

  • Rights Framework – particularly focussed on creative media content trading  
  • AI & Identity; how can DLT support identity and links to AI
  • Supply chain, in particular how distributed systems may play a part in supply visibility or trust, helping goods cross international borders more easily
  • Future of work; how will distributed systems change the future of work 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of the position will be to:

  • Contribute to the development of the research project, specifically undertaking research and developing business relationships
  • Publish journal articles at ABS 3/4, building on current skills

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

A PhD in Business and Management, as well as a high degree of organisation and ability to plan and manage your own studies are essential. A knowledge of business model and value theory, or a useful area of business theory (governance, trust, privacy, power, process mapping, Lean etc.) is needed. 

Previous academic experience publishing in academic journals in an applicable area of academia is highly desirable.

Previous experience of some of Business and Management area related to the project – which may include Business, Engineering management, development of DLT, blockchain, cryptocurrency or service science is desirable. Technical expertise already exists within the group on specifics of the science and software, so we do not seek a computer scientist or coder/programmer. 

Given the broad cross-disciplinary nature of the project, it is expected that the researcher would spend time visiting partners and working closely with the researchers at these institutes.

HOW MUCH WILL YOU BE PAID?

Ranging from Grade 4.1 to 4.8: Salary from £33,309 per annum depending on experience.

Please note – we expect candidates to move to within easy commuting distance of the University. Please look at house/rental prices in the area and decide if this is realistic for you.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£32,344) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£33,309).
