We are the university of Surrey, A leading university located within the Surrey town of Guildford, UK. Our research is focused on things that really matter and we strive to provide our students with a world leading approach to Education.

We are looking to recruit a high calibre individual for the role of Head of the newly-formed School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) at the University.  The School comprises the two Departments of Chemistry and Chemical and Process Engineering both of which have a long tradition going back over one hundred years.  The formation of the School brings together two strong and successful departments into a larger unit numbering over 500 undergraduate and over 50 masters students, 60 or more postgraduate research students and 40 academic staff.

There is a high level of research collaboration between the two Departments and the visionary and streamlined School structure will enhance this. Although less integrated at the moment, harmonisation of teaching between two departments will provide scope for future expansion of student numbers and new programmes at UG and PGT (Masters) level. Integration of administration is well under way.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or related areas, and experience of both disciplines.  A strong track record of research is important.  The School has strengths in Energy and Materials, Health and Food, Information and Process Systems, Process and Energy Technologies, Water and Food Processing Technologies, and Formulation and Products, among others, and candidates whose research complements these areas, or whose research is in a new area are equally welcome.

The candidate will show leadership and the ability to inspire to excellence in research and the student experience, and to forge new collaborations within the University, nationally, and internationally.  An innovative approach to School management and integration is welcomed. We encourage applications from women, disabled and Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic candidates, since these groups are currently underrepresented in our area.
