The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a highly qualified and collegiate individual with a passion for teaching and research in the area of water and/or environmental engineering. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic Department with an international reputation in water engineering, hosting a designated World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for the protection of water quality and health.

The Department offers highly praised undergraduate programmes with excellent employability prospects, together with a popular MSc degree (in Water and Environmental Engineering) in both contact and distance learning modes. Research is organised into thematic groups comprising Air Quality, Geomechanics, Infrastructure Systems Engineering, and Water Environment and Health Engineering, which were returned under General Engineering in REF 2014 and achieved 80% world leading or internationally excellent outputs.

Applications are invited from excellent candidates with a background in civil/environmental engineering, environmental science/technology or a closely related engineering discipline. Expertise in any of the following areas is particularly welcomed:water engineering, public health engineering, water quality modelling, water/wastewater treatment, water distribution and climate change impacts on water resources management.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate a strong publication record and involvement in developing high quality grant applications. Evidence of effective teaching and relevant design experience, as well as success in attracting funding, including research fellowships, are significant advantages. Chartered status is desirable.

The successful applicant will be expected to join the Water Environment and Health Engineering Group and undertake cutting edge research resulting in world leading outputs. S/he will contribute to core Civil Engineering teaching at undergraduate level (including design orientated modules) and at MSc level in their specialist area of water/environmental engineering and contribute to University life beyond teaching and research.

The Department is committed to equality of opportunity and the promotion of diversity for the benefit of all.
