As a result of our strategic plan and future vision, the School of Biosciences and Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is continuing to invest in Chronobiology research and teaching, and is now recruiting a highly motivated person to a Lectureship in Chronobiology to continue to add to the successes of Chronobiology research at the University.

This new lectureship constitutes an important addition to the Section of Chronobiology, in the Department of Biochemical Sciences, one of four departments in the School that is home to 85 academic staff in total. In the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), the School was ranked eighth out of 94 institutions in the Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy category.  Chronobiology is a discipline which complements most aspects of research within the School. Our current research covers all aspects of biological timing (ultradian, circadian and seasonal rhythms) in a range of models, particularly clinical studies in humans and (transgenic) rodent models. How these rhythms link to physiology (e.g. metabolic pathways, immune cell trafficking, cardiac rhythms), behaviour and health (e.g. rest/activity, dietary patterns, metabolic disease) are current focusses. Our research is underpinned by excellent modern clinical and basic research facilities.   We are now seeking new talent to complement our existing strengths and bring their own expertise and excellence to help deliver future research success. This lectureship is designed to enable a high potential early career academic to take the next step in their independent research career, supported with a start-up fund to resource a PhD studentship.

Successful applicants will have a PhD in a relevant subject, bring a record of achievement in diverse areas of research and be capable of forging appropriate networks locally, nationally and internationally.  Once at Surrey, you will be part of a collaborative team applying for, and obtaining external funding, enabling high quality publications and impact. You will also contribute to our student experience, teaching aspects of chronobiology and related subjects, such as physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology along with supervision of doctoral level research.
