The school’s particular strengths are in analytics, digital innovation and technological transformation, international trade and investment, leadership and organizational psychology, sustainability and corporate governance. Based in Guildford just outside of London, the University of Surrey is an outstanding international University with an enterprising spirit.

SBS runs a full range of programmes including undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programmes, as well as a PhD programme. SBS is becoming increasingly active in executive education (both open-enrolment and tailor-made programmes).  SBS has strong links with many technology-oriented start-ups and established firms in London, and the South-East of England in general. For further information, please visit the SBS website.

The Department of Business Transformation: Our Department has core research strengths in operations and supply chain, sustainability, extractive industries, business analytics and management information systems.  Our team manages a wide range of operations (including project management), supply chain management, ethics and sustainability modules and an MSc in Business Analytics programme. The Business Transformation department is led by Professor James Aitken and includes a healthy mix of research active faculty and practitioner teaching fellows, the latter bringing a wealth of business experience.

Our staff publish in leading journals in our fields such as the Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Operations & Production management, Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Production Planning & Control, European Journal of Operational Research. The Department’s research increasingly considers the links between analytics and sustainable operations and supply chain management, and we are looking to expand this emphasis.

The Teaching Fellow Role: We seek to appoint a Teaching Fellow in operations management to join our team. The successful applicant will demonstrate clear evidence of their capability to teach operations (with an emphasis on project management) and related areas across the curricula of UG and PG programmes. They will be expected to play an active role in leading and developing taught programmes, characterised by contemporary academic and commercial content that utilises thoughtful pedagogic approaches to learning and wider student experience. The post holder will participate in both research and teaching related activities in the Department of Business Transformation. Being physically present on campus through much of the working week will clearly be a key requirement of the post.

We will ensure that the teaching load is such that the post holder will have opportunities to develop their career –for example, through completion of Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE, pedagogical research, external business engagement or involvement in associations or professional bodies.
