The Maternal, Child and Family Health/Cancer group in the School of Health Sciences are excited to be advertising for a Research Fellow to work on the ‘PersonAlised survivorship care: customising supporT towards unmet psycHosocial needs in young people with cancer (PATH study)’. This project focuses on psychosocial interventions for young people who have experienced cancer. Our long-term aim is to develop and test an ‘app’ or some kind of ‘tool’, to support young people who have experienced cancer to make decisions about which psychosocial interventions (including self-help) might best help them. Prior to this, there are a number of development steps; in this study, we will undertake a realist synthesis of the literature to identify factors which influence the success or failure of ‘interventions’ designed to manage psychosocial challenges and build an online community of practice.

We are looking for a researcher with excellent project management and research skills, together with excellent verbal and written communication skills, who can work independently, but also work well within a team environment.  The successful candidate will be required to coordinate and undertake research activities including: developing, supporting, and maintaining a vibrant community of practice (involving young people, researchers and health professionals), undertaking a realist synthesis of the literature with the project team (leading on searching, data retrieval, data management and reporting) and contributing to writing and submitting a related research grant application. Previous knowledge and experience of undertaking healthcare research and undertaking a realist synthesis of literature would be an advantage.

This is a fixed-term part-time (0.6 wte) post for up to 12 months.

The School of Health Sciences is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and is a leading provider of undergraduate education in nursing, midwifery, and paramedic practice.  The School also has an extensive portfolio of postgraduate and continuing professional development courses, research and consultancy. It has extensive links with local health care providers and undertakes research and practice development projects with NHS trusts as active partners.

The School offers a wide range of innovative programmes in the field of Health Sciences. Research within the school is diverse, and focused in five distinct areas: cancer care, digital health, long term conditions and ageing, maternal, child and family health, and workforce, organisation and well-being.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£32,344) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£33,309).
