RNA Metabolism in Herpes Simplex Virus Infection

Applications are invited for an MRC-funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow based in the herpesvirus research group run by Prof. Gill Elliott in the Department of Microbial Sciences, School of Biosciences and Medicine, University of Surrey.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a comprehensive research programme into the biology of herpes simplex virus, with particular focus on the role of the virion host shutoff (vhs) protein on RNA metabolism during infection. The successful candidate will use an omics approach to elucidate the specific population and localisation of mRNA transcripts targeted by vhs, and the downstream effect on the cellular proteome and secretome.

We are therefore looking for a highly motivated individual with or about to obtain a PhD in a biological science and proven ability in virus research. A background in RNA biology, transcriptomics and/or proteomics would also be highly beneficial.

Our laboratory is located at the beautiful campus of the University of Surrey, close to London. The thriving Section of Virology is based in the Department of Microbial Sciences, where research is focused on the molecular and cellular basis of disease caused by a range of important human and animal pathogens.
