The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading public research universities. We’re looking for a passionate and talented communicator who can deliver engaging and inspiring communications for our senior leaders, our 2,500 staff and 17,000 students.

It’s a great time to join us. We have just launched our new institutional strategy for the next three years, and this role will play a key role in supporting our senior leaders in delivering engaging and inspiring communications that bring to life the wonderful things that happen at the University of Surrey.

Reporting to the Internal Communications Manager, this role will join a growing team that is developing a refreshed approach to how we engage and what we communicate to help nurture our Surrey community. This postholder has a great opportunity to bring innovative ideas, try new ideas, bring practice experience and to shape the way we do things for the better.

For this role, we are specifically looking for someone who has demonstrable experience of working directly with organisational leaders, producing speeches, talking points, written content for publication and presentation materials. You must also demonstrate your skills as a competent and engaging storyteller who can relate to audiences through words, and work with others to produce visual content. Experience of producing communication plans and working with others to deliver them is also required.

You will need to demonstrate experience of forging and managing good working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, being inclusive, acting with integrity and being a good collaborator. This role has line management responsibilities for which we are looking for experience or clear potential.

This role is part of the newly formed Communications and Public Affairs Team that works centrally across the University to promote our research, innovation and critical thinking, to build and nurture a recognisable Surrey Community, and to lead on best practice communications. The team incorporates the University level functions for staff and student communications, media relations, public affairs, public engagement, and events management.

We offer a generous pension, relocation assistance, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working locations (dependent on work duties), access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family-friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We value everyone in our community and are seeking to increase the diversity. Therefore, we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.

Closing date for applications: midnight on Tuesday 26 October 2021
