Student Experience

Location:  Guildford
Salary:  £28,762 to £33,314 per annum
Fixed Term Contract until July
Post Type:  Full Time
Closing Date:  23.59 hours GMT on Friday 16 December 2022

This is a great opportunity for someone with higher education outreach experience to join our Student Experience team to deliver the Higher Education Outreach Network’s activity.

The University of Surrey is a global community of staff and students, working and learning in an inspiring, innovative and diverse environment to make a positive impact through education and research. We have a bold vision of what we want to achieve through the talents and endeavour of every employee so your work will make a real, impactful difference.

On top of this, you’ll be rewarded with a generous pension, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working locations (dependent on work duties). There is also access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including our Bright Horizons on-site workplace nursery, which has an excellent 91% parent satisfaction score.

This role is fundamental in delivering the network’s strategic outreach objectives which include mapping of local outreach provision to identify cold spots in delivery (to schools, colleges, and underrepresented groups). Where cold spots exist, you will work collaboratively with the network manager, partners and other regional stakeholders to identify means to address these gaps. Another key area is to contribute to core network objectives, including the delivery of targeted and attainment raising outreach programmes in the region.

You will demonstrate that you have excellent written and oral presentation skills and a proven ability to encourage young audiences. Experience of delivering and/or developing educational materials, and knowledge of widening participation and higher education outreach initiatives are also essential.

HEON is a partnership of local organisations including universities and colleges in Surrey and North East Hampshire. Through a programme of targeted and strategic outreach, they aim to support young people to make informed decisions about their future education, support the raising of attainment in local schools and increase the rates of young people from local areas accessing higher education. HEON is funded and supported by the Office for Students (OfS) as part of the Uni Connect Programme.

We aim to attract the best possible talent from the broadest range of people and continue to improve the number of staff from groups that are under-represented across our workforce. We provide an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all and value everyone in our community. Therefore, we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities. We are proud to hold the Race Equality Charter, Athena Swan Charter, Disability Confident, Accessible and UK Workplace Equality Index.

Please apply today with a CV and covering letter.

Further information can be found in the job description, and if you have any questions, please contact Chris Dexter, HEON Manager, via c.dexter@surrey.ac.uk.
