The University of Surrey is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader as Head of the School of Economics.

Surrey is a global university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit committed to research and innovation excellence that benefits the economy, society and the environment.

Sitting within the renowned Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the School of Economics has established a reputation for outstanding research and education in a highly cohesive and collegial atmosphere.  The School was ranked 6th in the UK for research intensity in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and its academics serve as economic advisers to governments and other influential institutions.

As Head, you will occupy a key academic position within the Faculty and lead a School of strategic importance to the University as a whole.  Your role will be to take the School to new heights of research achievement, capitalising on the success of the School’s PhD programme, developing innovative graduate and undergraduate programmes, and raising the School’s international profile.  Ensuring excellence in the student experience will be at the heart of all you do.

Outstanding leadership and research credentials, a commitment to the highest standards of education and student wellbeing, and an open and collegiate approach that celebrates all the School has to offer are key requirements of the role.

The appointment as Head will be for five years, subject to renewal.  If suitably qualified, the successful candidate will also be appointed to a professorial position at the University on an open-ended basis.
